Ngaparou is a small coastal village located halfway between Saly and La Somone, known for its peaceful atmosphere and artisanal fishing port. Paddleboarding or kayaking here is the perfect activity to enjoy a morning at sea, far from the more crowded areas. The water is usually calm, sheltered by the natural curve of the bay.
From your paddleboard or kayak, you’ll glide along the light sandy beach lined with pirogues, occasionally crossing paths with fishermen returning from the ocean, while enjoying an open view of the Atlantic. Heading slightly south, you’ll spot the Somone lagoon and, in the distance, the colorful rooftops of Saly. This outing is as much a sporting experience as a moment of connection with the coastline and local life.
The activity begins with a welcome on Ngaparou’s main beach. After a presentation of the equipment (kayak or paddleboard), a certified instructor explains paddling techniques and safety rules. The group then sets off for a two-hour ride at an easy pace, suitable for all levels. The route follows the bay, passes the moored pirogues, and reveals the coastline from a new perspective. Depending on the tide, it’s sometimes possible to approach the mouth of the Somone or make a short stop on an isolated sandbank.
Nearby, you can visit the Ngaparou fishing port, the artisan market, or enjoy lunch in one of the small seaside restaurants. Nature lovers can also visit the Somone reserve, just a few minutes away.
