Description of this activity

This canoe trip is a quintessential Senegalese experience, offering a calm and authentic way to discover the coastline and lagoon areas. Depending on the chosen departure point, each location has its own unique atmosphere:

  • From Soumbédioune, the trip starts at the artisanal fishing port, surrounded by colorful canoes. You’ll cruise along the coast to see the cliffs, fishermen, and the bustling fish market — the beating heart of Dakar’s maritime life.
  • At Pink Lake, the navigation takes place in a striking landscape: the water shimmering with pink hues depending on the light, white sand dunes, and salt collectors at work.
  • From the Plateau or the Corniche, the canoe follows the urban coastline with views of the Mamelles, the Mosque of the Divinity, and the Atlantic horizon.

Get ready to board a traditional canoe, often hand-painted with colorful patterns. Each itinerary is led by a local guide who shares stories and traditions connected to the sea, fishing, and coastal life.
The ride lasts about two hours, with stops to observe birds, fishermen, or take photos. A light snack is served on board before returning to the dock.
