Paddleboarding or kayaking in Dakar reveals another side of the Senegalese capital — a mix of water sport and coastal exploration. Whether you start from Ngor, Yoff, Almadies or Virage, each beach offers a unique experience. At Ngor, you’ll paddle facing the small island of the same name — a symbol of Dakar’s island life, reachable in just a few minutes. In Yoff, the beach stretches for several kilometers, ideal for a calm ride often accompanied by the colorful fishing pirogues. Around Almadies, the sea is deeper and the landscape more rugged, offering a unique view of the Mamelles Lighthouse and the African Renaissance Monument. Finally, at Virage, the atmosphere is more family-friendly and sheltered — perfect for an introduction or small group activity.
The outing begins with a welcome on the selected beach. A certified instructor presents the equipment and safety guidelines. After a few minutes of explanation on posture and paddling technique, participants head out to sea. The excursion lasts around two hours, alternating between paddling, relaxing breaks, and moments of observation. Depending on the starting point, you’ll glide past the rocky coves of Almadies, the open bay of Yoff, or the calmer waters of Virage. Photos may be taken during the tour. The return is made peacefully along the shore, followed by a short debriefing on technique and sensations.
After your session, take time to visit nearby landmarks such as the village of Ngor, the Soumbédioune fish market, or the panoramic restaurant at the Mamelles to admire the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean.
