Description of this activity

The ornithological and photographic safari in the Fathala Reserve is an immersive experience in the heart of the African bush, renowned for its rich wildlife and stunning landscapes. Spread across 6,000 hectares of preserved, pristine forest, the site offers guided safaris on foot or in an open vehicle to observe and photograph a wide variety of exotic birds: Abyssinian roller, rose-ringed parakeet, Western red-billed hornbill, long-tailed glossy starling, bee-eaters, weavers, bulbuls, turacos, and many more.

With an experienced naturalist guide, the circuits follow water points, savannas, and wooded areas, ideal for encountering species during their courtship displays or feeding activities. Sunrise and sunset hours are recommended for the golden light and the peak bird activity. The safaris also offer the opportunity to photograph the larger wildlife of Fathala: giraffes, antelopes, zebras, rhinoceroses, buffaloes, monkeys, and occasionally lions during guided walks.

The experience is suitable for families and passionate birdwatchers, with educational stops, nature hides, and technical advice to ensure successful photos and discreet observations. Recommended gear includes a telephoto lens (200 mm+), binoculars, sun protection, neutral clothing, and a water bottle. Advance booking is advised for the best periods and to ensure the availability of an English- or French-speaking guide.
