Ngaparou is a coastal village more discreet than its neighbours, and a family day in Ngaparou keeps that spirit: private beach, thatched shelters and shaded areas, children’s activities, lunch included. A place to unwind as a family, without too much bustle.
A quiet beach, with its rocks
On arrival, a family area awaits visitors: sun loungers for the parents, shaded or sunny spots to choose from, a play area suited to the youngest and direct access to a beach described as clean and quiet. In the morning, you swim in an often calm sea, play in the sand, and can walk along the beach to the rocks typical of Ngaparou.
The activity leaders then run sports mini-games, craft workshops (drawings, shells, DIY), small challenges and group games, designed for several age groups. The afternoon follows the families’ rhythm: sandcastle contests, mini-Olympics, skill games, supervised swimming depending on the site, and quiet moments in the shade for the youngest.
Lunch, shade and precautions
The sun lounger, lunch and activities are included. Lunch is served in a shaded area: grills, local dishes or light recipes, menus adapted to children, fresh fruit or small treats. Drinks are optional. Beach games are provided depending on what the venue offers, and shaded areas and thatched shelters remain available all day.
Parents remain responsible during swimming, as the sea, generally calm, can vary with the tides. Pushchairs are generally easy to use on site. Bring sun cream and a hat. The beach is cleaned regularly, and weekends attract more families: booking is recommended.
Ngaparou, a fishing village on the Petite Côte
Ngaparou lies on the Petite Côte, about an hour’s drive from Dakar, in an area better preserved than the beach resorts. If you live in Dakar, it is a weekend outing you can do in a day. If you are staying as a family, it is an alternative to the noise of the big beaches: life here follows the rhythm of the pirogues and the tides.
Around Ngaparou
The Somone lagoon, very close, is ideal for a family pirogue ride, and Saly has restaurants and cafes for an end-of-day snack. The Popenguine reserve allows a longer nature outing. More family days add to the outing ideas.
