The surf trip in Ndayane takes a fishing village on the Petite Côte, about 50 km from Dakar, as its base and fans out to the nearby spots. Three to five days, two sessions a day, with meals, transfers and local assistance arranged, and an ideal period from October to May.
A fishing village as a base
Ndayane has a long, little-visited beach, which gives safety and calm for making progress as a group. Each morning, the guide adjusts the programme to the weather and the swell, and the group sets off by pick-up, on foot or by boat to one of the coast’s beach breaks. Depending on conditions, it alternates between Ndayane, Pierre de Lisse, Toubab Dialaw, Yène or Somone. Two surf sessions are organised each day, supervised by a local guide who gives technical advice, video feedback and safety management.
Introductory sessions are planned for beginners, on beach breaks with gentle waves suited to learning. Equipment is included or hired depending on the option, family packs are possible, and meals, transfers and local assistance are arranged. Lodging is in a surf camp or guesthouse, near the spots.
Between sessions, the programme leaves time to visit the fishing harbour, walk in the countryside, go birdwatching or do yoga facing the ocean. Lunch is on the beach or at the village market: barbecued fresh fish, a typical snack or a meal with a local family.
If you live in Dakar, it is a stay of a few days about fifty kilometres from the city, with a guide who chooses the spot. If you are visiting, it is a chance to discover a coast quieter than the resorts, at the pace of the tides.
Ndayane and the nearby spots
Ndayane is a lébou village (the lébou are the traditional fishing people of the Dakar coast) on the Petite Côte, in the commune of Popenguine-Ndayane, near Cap de Naze. Not far away, Toubab Dialaw mixes wild nature and art, Yène has its lagoon, and Somone suits more relaxed sessions, with paddleboarding breaks.
Between two sessions
To fill free time, the Popenguine Reserve is next door. A yoga session, a spell of paddle and kayak or other surf lessons and courses round out the stay.
