Description of this activity

Quad and buggy for beginners in Ngaparou is an easy half-day on the tracks of the Petite Côte, among villages, bush and wild beaches. The buggy, helmet and instructor are provided, from age 16, with no licence needed: you learn to drive at the pace of the landscape.

A half-day to learn to ride

It all starts with a full briefing on safety and handling the vehicle, with practice runs to get the feel of it before departure. The guide then takes you along sandy tracks that wind between the villages, the bush and the beaches of the coast. The pace is deliberately calm: everyone gets used to the machine while enjoying the scenery.

Regular stops are planned to watch local life, take photos or breathe in the sea air. The route then runs along the edges of the Somone, where the lagoon and mangroves make a landscape of their own, before returning to Ngaparou along the coastal tracks, with colourful pirogues (traditional wooden boats) in the distance. You can choose between a quad and a buggy, each with its own way of driving and its own feel.

Conditions and equipment

The activity is open from age 16, with no licence needed, and a local guide supervises. Bring a scarf, sunglasses, closed shoes and sun cream. The helmet is provided.

Ngaparou, the village before the resort

Ngaparou is a coastal village a few minutes from Saly and Somone, on the side where the Petite Côte feels more authentic: life here follows the tides, the return of the pirogues and the craft markets, in the shade of the baobabs. That is the face the ride shows you, rather than the hotels. If you live in Dakar, it slips easily into a weekend; if you are passing through Saly, it gives you another view of the region. The Ngaparou page presents the village.

Extending the day around Ngaparou

What comes next is in the same area: the Bandia safari for wildlife, the Popenguine reserve for its cliffs and birds, or Joal-Fadiouth for a cultural day. On the water, the pirogue ride complements the outing on land.
