The introductory flight in Dakar is made in a light aircraft, from Yoff airfield, or from the one in Saly on the Petite Côte. A professional pilot shows you the Senegalese coastline from above, on a panoramic flight of 20 to 40 minutes, from age 12.
A panoramic flight in a light aircraft
After a personal welcome, the pilot presents the aircraft and the safety rules. With a headset over your ears, you board for a flight of 20 to 40 minutes depending on the option you choose. The pilot, a flight instructor, comments on each stage and shares a few notions of aeronautics. The flight is steady, and the pilot adapts the altitude to the conditions. Up to 3 passengers can go on board, depending on the aircraft used.
Equipment is included, the activity is open to everyone from age 12 and flights are operated by professional pilots. The activity depends on the weather: a flight may be postponed if the sky is not suitable. Bring sunglasses, a camera, comfortable clothes and closed shoes.
If you live in Senegal, it is an original gift for someone close to you or a way to see your own city again, in a morning. If you are visiting, it is a useful reconnaissance at the start of your stay: you grasp the geography before choosing where to put down your bags.
Two departures, two coastlines
From Yoff, the flight gives a view of the Cap-Vert peninsula, the Mamelles, the western Corniche and Gorée Island. The district of Yoff, north of Dakar, stretches between the airport and the Atlantic. The Mamelles lighthouse and Gorée Island are part of the landscape seen from the sky.
From Saly, the flight follows the Petite Côte: Ngaparou, Somone, then the wild beaches as far as Joal-Fadiouth. The Somone lagoon, with its mangrove, is one of the sites the flight lets you pinpoint at a glance.
Other outings to extend the day
After the flight, you can stay in the outdoor adventure spirit with the adventure and outdoors category, or nearer the water with a boat excursion to see up close what you have just flown over.
