The group surf lesson at Pierre de Lisse is held on an unspoilt beach on the Petite Côte, lined with dunes, near Toubab Dialaw. A session of 1 h 30 to 2 hours with a surf coach and the equipment provided, on a beach break known for its consistency.
A regular beach break, in a group
Pierre de Lisse is an unspoilt beach, lined with dunes, which is thought of as one of the most inspiring spots on the Petite Côte. At daybreak, the golden light picks out the sand and the blue of the Atlantic, facing the laterite rock of the region. The beach break is known for its consistency and its manageable waves, and suits those just starting as much as those who want to progress.
The instructor organises the group by experience: getting to grips with the equipment, safety instructions, warm-up games, then practice on the sandbank with individual advice. Everyone moves at their own pace, encouraged by the group. The equipment and the surf coach are included: foam boards, wetsuits depending on the weather, insurance. Bring sunscreen, light long-sleeved clothing, water, a natural snack and a camera. Registration is open all year, with early booking advised in high season.
The site stays quiet, even in season, but a few sea urchins are found in some areas: stay alert. Some instructors teach in English, Italian or Spanish, depending on the season. If you live in Dakar, it is a group lesson on a quiet beach about forty kilometres from the city. If you are visiting, it is a chance to share the wave with other beginners without ending up on a crowded beach.
