The group surf lesson in Somone is a one-hour session in a small group, with a surf coach and the equipment provided, on a wide, gently sloping beach that runs along a lagoon classed as a nature reserve. Children, teenagers and adults progress together, with session packs usable over 8 weeks.
A one-hour session in a small group
There is a single option: the 1-hour group session, priced per person. It opens with a welcome on the beach and the forming of groups, then warm-up exercises and safety advice. The session then runs in a small group, with progression by level, supervised by an experienced instructor. Somone’s beaches are known for their gentle waves, and each participant is equipped: foam boards to start, a wetsuit suited to the season, constant advice.
The equipment and the surf coach are included. Bring waterproof sunscreen and UV-protective clothing, as well as booties or sandals to cross the lagoon. Session packs are usable over 8 weeks, and can alternate between surfing, kayaking and paddleboarding. The emphasis is on team spirit and personal progress; you come alone, with your children or with friends.
If you live in Dakar, an eight-week pack is a way to come back every other weekend to the Petite Côte and make progress. If you are visiting, one session is enough to get a feel for the beach before visiting the lagoon.
Somone: beach and lagoon
Somone is a village on the Petite Côte, about ten kilometres south of Saly. Its wide, gently sloping beach runs along a lagoon classed as a nature reserve, which you cross with booties or sandals. During the breaks, you can find fresh fruit, birdwatching and “nature” workshops.
After the lesson
A pirogue trip on the lagoon extends the morning, as does the Somone lagoon for those who like birds, or a paddle and kayak outing. The coast’s other surf lessons and courses offer other formats.
