The private surf lesson at Pierre de Lisse takes place in a very quiet setting, away from the crowd, with a private coach for 1 h 30. Equipment and insurance are included, children are accepted from age 6, and the limited capacity means you need to book.
One coach, an almost empty beach
The setting is made of pale sand, shifting sandbanks and often regular waves. On arrival, the instructor assesses the student’s experience, expectations and physical condition, whether beginner or experienced. The teaching starts with advice on choosing the spot according to the swell, reading the sandbank or approaching the wave as the tide changes. Exercises adapt continuously, with individual corrections and the possibility of filming the session. The absence of a crowd makes catching waves easier and calmer.
The equipment is included: standard-approved boards, wetsuit depending on the season, insurance, with a private coach. A photo or video session can be requested, multi-session packs exist, and you should book without delay, as capacity is limited. Times are flexible: morning, midday or sunset depending on conditions. The option is for children from age 6, for novices who feel apprehensive, and for surfers who want to work on their technique or their mental preparation. Lessons in English or Italian are possible, and equipment can be hired on its own, by the session.
After the session, the beach offers a walk on the cliffs or a treat in the neighbouring village, which sees few tourists. If you live in Dakar, it is the quiet option for a weekend near Toubab Dialaw. If you are visiting, it is a lesson you would struggle to find on a better-known beach.
Pierre de Lisse and its neighbouring village
Pierre de Lisse lies on the Petite Côte, near Toubab Dialaw, a lébou village about 40 km south of Dakar. The setting is natural, away from large groups, and is part of the Dakar region.
After the lesson
On site, you can walk on the cliffs or extend your visit in the village. The Popenguine Reserve allows another walk, and paddle and kayak show the coast from the water. Other surf lessons and courses are offered if you want to surf in a group.
