The surf trip on the Petite Côte is a 3 to 5 day journey in which a guide picks the ideal spot each day between Toubab Dialaw, Somone, Ndayane, Yène and other beaches. Transfers, lodging and meals are arranged depending on the option, with French-speaking local assistance, for the October to May season.
One route, several beaches
Unlike a course based in one place, this surf trip moves. Each day begins with an analysis of weather and tides, and the guide selects the best spot: beach breaks, point breaks and, in certain swells, accessible reef waves. The possible spots are Toubab Dialaw, Somone, Ndayane, Yène, Bargny and Pierre de Lisse, from wild coves to the colourful beach of Toubab Dialaw. Along the journey, you receive personal advice, you can film your progress, and a souvenir video and tips are handed over at the end of the trip.
The morning is spent at a wild spot, midday in a fishing village, the afternoon near the Somone lagoon or on Ndayane beach for sunset. Lodging varies with the route: surf camp, guesthouse, or a bivouac on the beach for those who like the “roots” spirit. Equipment is included or hired depending on the option. A local contact is reachable throughout the stay, with French-speaking assistance. Family packs and private groups are possible, with yoga, paddle or nature hike options.
Beginners can start on the easy beach breaks. If you live in Dakar, it is a way to surf other spots in a few days, without starting from scratch each time. If you are visiting, it is a way to see the coast at a pace that leaves time to stop in the villages.
Toubab Dialaw, Somone, Ndayane, Yène
The Petite Côte unrolls about a hundred kilometres of coastline, from Bargny to Joal-Fadiouth. Toubab Dialaw backs onto ochre cliffs, Yène borders a lagoon, Somone has its nature reserve, and Ndayane offers a big village beach. Bargny also has a more urban beach break.
Extending the trip
Between two sessions, the Popenguine Reserve, the Somone lagoon and the fishing villages give you plenty to do. A yoga session, paddle and kayak or other surf lessons and courses round out the programme.
