A 4×4 excursion from Saint-Louis is a half-day of about four hours off the beaten track, in the Sahelian bush: sand tracks, Fulani villages and local markets. The off-road vehicle and guide are included, from two people.
The Sahelian bush in half a day
The excursion shows a rural Senegal: sand tracks, herds, baobabs, scenes of daily life and local wildlife along the route. Fulani villages and lively markets mark the route. The off-road vehicle and guide let you reach places that are hard to get to otherwise, and chat with local people.
The trip lasts a half-day, about four hours, departing from Saint-Louis. It is open from two people. Included: the 4×4 vehicle and the guide, as well as the discovery of the Sahelian bush, traditional villages and local markets. Meals and personal expenses are not included. The price is quoted per person, decreasing with group size.
Bring something to protect you from sun and dust: hat, sunglasses, sun cream, water.
If you live in Saint-Louis or are staying there, the half-day lets you get out of the city and the island without giving up a whole day, and you can combine the excursion with a visit on the same day.
Saint-Louis and its hinterland
Saint-Louis is a former colonial capital at the mouth of the Senegal River, facing the Atlantic, whose historic island is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is organised around the island of Ndar, the Langue de Barbarie and Sor. Around it, the Saint-Louis region is best read along the river: the Senegal of water and light, which soon opens onto the bush.
Sights nearby
Among the sites mentioned around the route: the Djoudj National Bird Sanctuary, the Langue de Barbarie National Park, the Guembeul reserve and the Lompoul desert. To round out the trip, traditional sites and villages and guided cultural visits give a grounding in the region.
