A Land Rover safari at the Pink Lake shows you the lake and its dunes from a 6-seat vehicle, with a driver-guide. Three lengths to choose from, from 45 minutes to 2 hours, priced per person.
Three lengths, one 6-seat vehicle
The outing is made in a safari-type Land Rover, a 6-seat vehicle driven by a driver-guide. Three options, all priced per person:
- 45 minutes: the short outing, for a taste of the lake and the dunes.
- 1 hour: the middle format.
- 2 hours: the longest of the three, for more time on site.
The longer you choose, the more you can stop to watch and take photos.
The vehicle and the driver-guide are included; drinks are not. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before the outing.
A 6-seat vehicle lends itself to sharing, with friends or family: everyone watches the landscape go by, without having to drive. The lake, barely three square kilometres in size, lives off salt harvesting, crafts and adventure sports: the Land Rover outing gives you a first look at all that. If you live in Dakar, an hour or two is enough to treat yourself to a different landscape in the late afternoon or at the weekend. If you are visiting, it is a short way to see the lake and its dunes when you do not have the whole day.
The Pink Lake in brief
To place the ride: the Pink Lake, or Lake Retba, lies thirty kilometres north-east of Dakar. Its waters take on pink, orange and violet reflections depending on the time of day and the season, against a backdrop of dunes and filao trees. It is a place of work as much as of contemplation: salt harvesting, crafts, adventure sports. The Pink Lake page recounts its history, including the arrival of the Paris-Dakar rally.
Take it further around the lake
For what comes next, quad and buggy feed the appetite for dunes; a horse or camel ride slows the pace; and another safari route can complete the day towards the Petite Côte.
