An aquabike class in Ngaparou is cardio and strength training on a submerged bike, with the water at waist height, in a quiet village on the Petite Côte. The coach leads the session, the water softens impact, and everyone sets the intensity to suit themselves.
Pedalling in the water, without impact
The session begins with an aquatic warm-up, which gently activates the muscles. Seated on submerged bikes, participants go through rhythmic pedalling, intensity variations according to level, arm movements against the resistance of the water, abs and waist work, and exercises aimed at the legs and glutes. The session ends with gentle stretching, still in the water, to help recovery.
The resistance of the water allows a deep effort without impact on the joints: the activity stays accessible if you have joint sensitivity. Intensity can be low or high, everyone goes at their own pace, and the coach adapts the tempo to each person’s abilities, with a lively playlist. Aquabike generally takes place in a private pool or a calm water area, in a zone where the water normally reaches the waist, so you do not need to know how to swim.
Bring a comfortable swimsuit, a towel, possibly water shoes, and remember to drink: even in the water, you sweat. Arriving a few minutes early lets you adjust the bike. The activity suits teenagers and adults, with younger people needing to be accompanied; a private session is possible depending on availability.
If you live on the Petite Côte, it is a class to fit into a relaxed morning. If you are staying here, it is a way to stay active without running in the sun.
Ngaparou, a quiet village south of Saly
Ngaparou lies south of Saly and Somone, on the Petite Côte. Away from the busy resorts, it lives to the rhythm of the tides, the return of the colourful pirogues and the craftsmen’s markets. The setting makes the session particularly pleasant in the morning.
After the class
After the effort, the quiet beaches of Ngaparou and Somone invite you to unwind. The craft village offers sculptures, masks and traditional objects, the Somone lagoon is good for a pirogue trip or birdwatching, and the fishing port of Mbour offers the sight of the pirogues returning. Other water activities are offered under swimming and aquatic.
