Sports coaching in Dakar is done with a coach, in one-to-one sessions or a small group, by the session or in a pack. Equipment and coach are included, and the options cover strength training, personalised coaching, coaching at home and even online follow-up.
Which coaching option to choose?
The options fall into several families:
- Strength training: a one-hour session, or a pack of 7 or 8 sessions.
- Personalised coaching: a one-hour session, a session by schedule, or a pack of 3 sessions over three days.
- Coaching at home: a one-hour session, the coach comes to you.
- Small group: one hour, three sessions a week.
- Online coaching: 30 minutes, two sessions a week.
Each session is priced per person, and some packs are named: they cannot be shared. Coaching can be one-to-one or in a small group.
Sessions alternate cardio, strength work and stretching, with attention to correct technique. Each is tailored to your goal: weight loss, toning, relaxation or simply getting back in shape. The equipment is provided and a coach supervises every session.
Where to train in Dakar
Sessions can take place in a gym, but also outdoors: on the Corniche Ouest, at the African Renaissance Monument, near the Mamelles lighthouse or on the beach at Yoff for a more natural feel, at sunrise. Depending on the option, the session can also be at home or online, which saves travelling across Dakar.
Coaching serves two kinds of people. If you live in Dakar, you get regular follow-up, at the pace of a pack, to stay in shape all year. If you are visiting, you can fit in a session or a small pack for the length of your stay, so you do not go without exercise.
After the session
To round out your training, yoga and meditation and martial arts offer other ways to work on breath and balance, and a massage helps you recover. For sightseeing, Gorée Island and Ngor Island remain the easiest outings around the city.
