Sport fishing in Dakar takes place on the open sea, aboard an equipped boat, between Gorée Island, the rugged coast of the Almadies and the wide Atlantic expanses. You leave about 8 am from the Plateau, the bait, the equipment and the fishing guide are provided, and the outing is open to all levels.
A day of deep-sea fishing
Dakar is a port city, and a taste for the sea is felt here: the outing offers fishing offshore, with rod and reel, aboard an equipped boat. The targets are jacks, dorado, barracudas and tuna, as well as, depending on the season and the area, threadfin and snappers. Nothing is guaranteed: it all depends on the season, the place and luck.
The experienced guide shares tips, looks after the group’s safety and adapts to each person’s level; beginners receive an introduction. The equipment, the bait and the fishing guide are included. You leave in the morning, about 8 am, from the Plateau, and the day ends with a return to port at the end of the afternoon. Breaks on the water give you time to chat with the crew, learn the techniques and discover the local wildlife.
Bring a cap, sun protection, light clothing and a camera. The outing is available as a shared or private option, so you can put together a group of friends or go as a family.
If you live in Dakar, this is a whole day at sea that starts at the edge of the city, without taking the road. If you are visiting, it is another way to look at the capital, from offshore and away from the quays.
Dakar on the ocean side
Dakar is lived through its neighbourhoods and its ocean. Leaving from the Plateau places the outing in the port and business district; the route then follows the coast, between Gorée Island and the point of the Almadies. To place the area, the Dakar region widens the view to the whole peninsula.
After the outing
On your return, you can stroll along the west corniche, visit Soumbedioune or head over to Ngor Island. Other boat trips take you out to Gorée, and sport fishing is also available on the Petite Côte and in Casamance.
