The Gorée and Pink Lake excursion puts the island of memory and the lake of changing waters side by side, in one day. Half a day on Gorée, then the Pink Lake with a pirogue ride; transport, lunch and guide are included, with door-to-door pick-up from the Petite Côte.
One day, two moods
The first part takes place on Gorée Island, with the guide; the second leads to Lake Retba, where you board a pirogue for a ride. The two stops are nothing alike: the island is a place of memory, with lanes you explore on foot, the lake a natural site whose waters take on pink, orange or violet reflections depending on the time of day and the season.
Transport, the pirogue ride at the Pink Lake, lunch and the guide are included. Drinks are not included, and the ferry crossing to Gorée is paid at the ticket office: it is an official fee, payable on site, on top of the price, with a reduced rate for children and different rates depending on whether you are Senegalese, an African resident or a non-resident; the island tax is added to it.
Where does the excursion start?
From the Petite Côte, door-to-door pick-up is included for Saly, the Somone and Ngaparou. From Dakar, it is possible with a transport supplement. If you live on the Petite Côte, it is a day that spares you the logistics of a return trip to the capital; if you are visiting on a beach stay, two sites close to the capital can be seen without hiring a car.
Gorée and the Pink Lake
Gorée brings together lanes, the House of Slaves and memory; the Gorée Island page details the visit. The Pink Lake lies about thirty kilometres north-east of Dakar; the Pink Lake page describes the site.
To extend your day
Around the lake, quad and buggy rides are a natural follow-up, as is another pirogue ride. To see other islands, the island excursions widen the choice.
