The Pink Lake excursion fits into a day: the pink-water lake, a pirogue ride to see the salt basins up close, and the surrounding villages. Transport, guide and pirogue are included; the camel ride and the 4×4 tour are extra.
A day around the lake
The Pink Lake, or Lake Retba, changes colour with the time of day and the season: pink, orange, violet. It is the centre of a day with a guide, which includes a pirogue ride on the lake and visits to the surrounding villages. The options are priced at a flat rate for the group, with three entries: a day from Dakar, a weekend group departure from Cicès, pirogue ride included, and a simple day.
Transport, the guide and the pirogue ride are included. Drinks are not included, and the camel ride and the 4×4 tour are extras: you choose them on site if you want to add them.
Departures and conditions
The outing runs from 2 people. It is possible from Pointe Sarène or Saly, at the same price whichever the starting point, and a weekend group departure takes place at Cicès. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before; after that, the amount paid is not refunded.
The lake, thirty kilometres from Dakar
The Pink Lake lies about thirty kilometres north-east of Dakar, where the Sahel meets the Atlantic, surrounded by dunes and Sahelian land. The Pink Lake page tells the story of the site. If you live in Dakar, it is a day close to home, to share with relatives; if you are visiting the Petite Côte, an excursion that leaves from Saly or Pointe Sarène and does not require hiring a car.
To extend your trip
On site, quad and buggy, horse or camel rides and the 4×4 in the dunes are the classic extensions. The Tortoise Village is another stop in the area, and the pirogue rides gather other outings on the water.
