The horse-cart ride in Saly and Mbour is a quiet outing through villages, bush and the seafront, on the Petite Côte. Three options, of 1 hour, 2 hours or a 3-hour half day, priced per person.
Three lengths, one pace
Three options are offered, all priced per person: 1 hour, 2 hours and a 3-hour half day. The route runs between villages, bush and the seafront, around Saly and Mbour, at the pace of a horse that is in no hurry.
The 1-hour option is enough for a first taste; the half day suits those who want to take their time. As the price is per person, every participant counts in the booking, children included. Bring a hat, sun cream and water for an outdoor outing.
If you live in Senegal, it is an outing to share with the children or with guests, with no walking or driving. If you are visiting Saly, it is a gentle alternative to the resort’s motorised activities, which shows you the life of the coast and its villages.
Saly and Mbour
Saly, 80 km south of Dakar, is the country’s first seaside resort, created in the 1980s on a former Serer fishing village, around a sheltered coast and the historic port of Portudal. Mbour is its neighbour, about 5 km away: the capital of its department in the Thiès Region, it is the country’s second fishing port after Dakar, with its pirogues, colourful markets and fine-sand beaches. Mbour combines a fishing economy with emerging tourism. Saly has more than 10,000 beds spread across hotels, residences and villas. Both lie on the Petite Côte, between the sea and the interior.
Around the ride
To complete the picture, horse and camel rides are done on the animal’s back, jet skiing offers another way to follow the coast, and the Bandia Reserve is the region’s nature outing.
