Diving into the heart of Senegal’s traditions means connecting with the soul of the country and its people. Far from the urban centers, the villages preserve the authenticity of the many ethnic groups that make up the Senegalese nation: the Lébous of the Cap-Vert peninsula, guardians of the coastline and fishing heritage; the Serer people of the Petite Côte and the Sine-Saloum, known for their sense of hospitality; and the Joola of Casamance, proud of their vibrant cultures, among others.
In these traditional communities, social organization is often guided by values such as mutual aid, sharing, and respect for elders. In this deeper Senegal, every home, every public square, and every workshop carries a fragment of history and collective memory.
In villages like Joal-Fadiouth or Somone, local crafts — batik, jewelry, wood carving — are passed down from generation to generation. Visitors can take part in daily activities: fishing introductions, cooking workshops, or dance and music sessions under a veranda. In Dakar, guided tours take you inside Lébou villages, where fishing rituals, net preparation, and tasting the famous thieboudienne are shared as family traditions.
These visits are led by local guides who, proud of their culture, happily share legends, proverbs, songs, and stories beneath the village tree or at the weekly market.
Booking is done online — 20% deposit, balance paid on-site — for an accessible, interactive, and friendly experience. Children are welcome. A rare opportunity to see authentic Senegal through new eyes.
