Your boxing classes in Dakar take place at a club in the Mermoz district, in the evening on weekdays: boxing, Muay Thai, women-only fitness boxing, non-contact cardio training and a children’s introduction from age 8. You sign up by the month, or for 3, 6 or 12 months, and the club provides the equipment.
Five classes, one club
Boxing and Muay Thai, the Thai discipline that adds kicks, knees and elbows, are open to all levels. Boxing runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 7.30 pm to 9 pm; Muay Thai on Tuesday and Thursday at the same times. Each session lasts 1 hour 30 minutes.
For women, a fitness boxing class combines boxing, cardio and strength work on Tuesday and Thursday from 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm. The non-contact cardio training, inspired by boxing, runs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6 pm to 7.30 pm: you get the intensity of the ring without taking a single punch. Children from age 8 have their own playful introduction on Wednesday and Friday from 5 pm to 6 pm.
The club has been running for more than ten years and combines sport, education and support for young people in the neighbourhood. Equipment is provided: just come in sports kit, with a towel and a water bottle.
Signing up: how it works
The rate is per person and depends on your profile: adult, student (with proof of status) or child. The monthly plan lets you start without committing for long; the 3, 6 and 12-month plans work out cheaper per month for anyone settling into the practice. A “two disciplines” option lets you follow two classes, for example boxing and cardio training. The one-off registration fee is added to the first month. You choose your preferred discipline when you book.
If you live in Dakar, this is a year-round practice close to home, at times that leave your working day untouched. If you are visiting for several weeks, the monthly plan lets you train throughout your stay; for a single session, a one-hour individual coaching class is the better fit.
Where and when to train in Dakar
The club is in Mermoz, a residential district of Dakar. Group classes are held in the evening from Monday to Friday, and the gym opens at 9 am on weekdays for open training; private classes are available on request. The exact address is given once your booking is confirmed.
Rounding off your training
Boxing pairs well with coaching and fitness, which let you work on cardio and strength with a coach. For a change of scene, martial arts bring more suppleness, and Senegalese wrestling introduces the country’s most popular combat sport. After the most intense sessions, a traditional massage helps you recover.
