Jet skiing in Somone takes place outside the protected lagoon, where the ocean opens onto the horizon: a session of 1 hour or 2 hours, with an experienced instructor and equipment provided, from age 16, no boating licence.
Outside the reserve, facing the ocean
The Somone lagoon is a protected area: riding takes place just outside it, in a secure space. The activity starts on the beach, where a qualified instructor welcomes the group for a briefing on safety and riding. After a few simple instructions, you take the controls of the machine, solo or for two, for a session adapted to your level. The ride lets you follow the coast and admire the contrast between the green mangrove, the fine-sand beaches and the blue-tinged waters of the Atlantic.
The equipment and the instructor are included. Two packages exist: 1 hour or 2 hours. The activity is accessible from age 16, and no boating licence is needed. Bring a swimsuit, towel, sun cream and sunglasses with a strap. The longer sessions let you explore the area towards Ngaparou or Saly.
Somone, the sea side
Somone is a village built on an estuary, about ten kilometres south of Saly, whose lagoon is a community nature reserve. It is the same water, but not the same rhythm: here, jet skiing reminds you that you are also on the edge of the ocean. If you live in Dakar, it is a weekend activity that contrasts with a nature outing on the lagoon; if you are visiting the Petite Côte, a way to vary a beach stay. The page on the Somone lagoon details the reserve and its birds.
After the session
After the session, you can visit the nature reserve, have lunch in a restaurant on stilts or swim on the main beach. Ngaparou is nearby, with its craft village. Other water activities are on offer: jet skiing, towed sports or the pirogue ride.
