Motocross at the Pink Lake is a one-hour off-road ride around Lake Retba and its dunes. The bike, equipment and supervision are included, the price is per group, and you need to be 2 at minimum.
One hour off-road around the lake
There is a single option: a 1-hour supervised ride, priced per group, from 2 people. The bike, equipment and supervision are included; drinks are not. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before the outing.
The terrain is that of the lake: sand tracks and dunes that surround the salt water, with the pink, orange or violet of the water as a backdrop depending on the time of day and the season. It is a physical outing, which means holding a motorbike steady on sand, but the supervision lets you ride at the group’s pace. Bring clothes that can stand the dust, closed shoes, protective glasses and sun cream.
One hour is enough to get an idea of the terrain without giving up the whole day: the outing fits before or after a visit to the lake, a meal or another activity on site. The group format suits a gang of friends, colleagues or a family of older teenagers.
If you live in Dakar, it is a weekend outing that makes a change from the beaches, some thirty kilometres from the capital. If you are visiting, it is the most demanding version of the lake’s activities, to book for those who like big thrills.
The Pink Lake, between Sahel and Atlantic
The Pink Lake, or Lake Retba, lies thirty kilometres north-east of Dakar, where the Sahel meets the Atlantic. Barely three square kilometres in size, it is known as the finish line of the Paris-Dakar rally, and for its working life: salt harvesting, crafts, adventure sports. The Pink Lake page tells its story, and the Dakar Region gives the wider setting.
Other outings around the lake
To compare, quad and buggy offer another way of driving, the motorised leisure category brings together outings in the same spirit, and a horse or camel ride slows the pace.
