The sand scrub in Cap Skirring puts the Casamance beach to work for your skin: a natural sand scrub, a 45-minute body treatment, at a flat rate, indoors. Booking in advance is advised.
A 45-minute scrub
A scrub means gently rubbing the skin with a grainy material to remove dead cells, which leaves the skin smoother and softer. Here, the grain is sand, hence the name of the treatment. The option lasts 45 minutes, at a flat rate, and takes place indoors, at a salon in Cap Skirring: you come for a body-care break, before or after the beach, rather than for a half day at the spa.
Getting ready
A scrub needs little preparation: avoid shaving or waxing right beforehand, mention any irritation, sunburn or very sensitive skin, and plan to stay in the shade after the session. After several days at the beach, skin is often dehydrated, and a scrub followed by a good moisturiser does it good. If you plan to be in the sun afterwards, schedule the scrub at the end of the day or after the beach, and avoid scented products on freshly scrubbed skin. Remember to shower after the session.
If you live in the Casamance, it is an upkeep treatment, to slot between two trips. If you are travelling, it is a ritual in tune with the place, white sand included, to enjoy before you leave.
Cap Skirring, the beach of the Casamance
Cap Skirring is the beach resort of the Casamance, a green, humid, unhurried Senegal woven with rice paddies, forests and bolons (tidal creeks). The white-sand beach is the backdrop of the stay, and a sand scrub finds its natural place here: it echoes the shore, which you return to afterwards to swim and rinse your skin.
Other body treatments
To complete the treatment, a massage or other body treatments extend the relaxation, and a facial completes the programme. To go out, Oussouye and the islands of the region open up another side of the Casamance.
