A hammam and scrub in Dakar are the basis of body care at a beauty salon: steam bath, oriental black soap scrub, wraps, wood therapy. The menu has 13 options from 20 minutes to 1 h 30, alone or as a pair.
Hammam, scrub, wrap
The options fall into three families, all priced per person:
- The hammam: a 20-minute steam bath, or 1-hour options, in a simple or more elaborate version.
- Scrubs: a 30-minute body scrub, a 1-hour oriental black soap scrub, or a scrub combined with a mask or a wrap (1 hour, or 1 h 30 with a clarifying wrap).
- Body treatments: 1-hour wood therapy, a 1-hour slimming treatment and a 1-hour seaweed wrap.
The traditional hammam opens the pores and prepares the skin, the black soap scrub exfoliates it, and the wrap finishes with a moisturising or clarifying treatment. For a first visit, a hammam followed by a scrub makes a simple sequence.
Before you come
Bring a change of clothes. Tell the practitioner about any skin condition, pregnancy or health problem before a hammam or a heating treatment, and drink water after the session. Slimming treatments and wood therapy are aesthetic wellness treatments: results vary from person to person.
If you live in Dakar, it is a classic appointment, to take before a ceremony or a wedding, or for an afternoon with friends. If you are visiting, it is a warm pause, and a counterpoint to the heat of the street. A hammam followed by a scrub and a wrap makes a sequence best taken at the end of the day, when nothing else is planned afterwards.
Dakar: at a beauty salon
The treatments take place in Dakar, at a beauty salon. Depending on the address, you can end the day in Ngor, by the sea, or in the Plateau, for a coffee.
Completing the treatment
A massage, a facial or a manicure can follow the hammam. A private beach day extends the relaxation by the water.
