Sea fishing in Saly comes in two forms on the Petite Côte: big-game fishing, offshore, or palangrotte (line fishing) from a pirogue, more accessible, near the shore. A half day or a full day, solo or in a group, with equipment and support provided.
Big game or palangrotte
Big-game fishing is for those who want to try for the offshore catches, depending on the season. Palangrotte from a pirogue is calmer: you tempt the fish close to the coast, in a friendly atmosphere. Equipment and support are provided, and you can go alone or with others.
The options come as a half day (4 hours) or a full day (8 hours). For palangrotte, the price is sometimes a flat rate per boat, for a group, sometimes per person; an option for 1 to 2 people also exists. Big-game fishing is booked as a full day for one person or as a half day for a group.
When and how
An early-morning start is recommended: the sea is calmer and the fish more active. Bring a cap, a windbreaker and sun cream. Each option states its length, the number of participants and its pricing mode, and the price is shown in the selector, option by option.
Saly, on the Petite Côte
Saly is the seaside resort of the Petite Côte, about 80 km south of Dakar: it stretches along the coast and welcomes visitors every year in search of sun, sea and hospitality, with its Saly page for details of the site. If you live in Senegal, a morning in a pirogue is a good weekend plan away from the capital, with a dawn start that leaves the rest of the day free; if you are visiting the coast, it is an outing that makes a change from the beach, at the pace of the fishermen, and fits easily between two days of swimming.
Things to do nearby
To stay on the water, the sport fishing category gathers other departures, a pirogue ride offers a version without a rod, and the cruises and boat hire let you go further.
