A tour guide in Dakar is a companion who knows the places: to visit the capital, to link Gorée, Bandia and the Pink Lake, or to head out for a day inside the country. The guiding is sold on its own: neither transport nor tickets are included, and the entry tickets to the sites are paid on site.
Which guiding option?
Five options are on offer, all priced per person, with one band for 1 to 3 people and another for 4 people and more. The guided visit of Dakar takes a few hours in the capital; the excursion combines Gorée, Bandia and the Pink Lake; and a guide can also accompany you for a day inside the country.
The point to remember: you are booking the guide’s expertise, not an all-inclusive package. You arrange the transport yourself, and the site tickets are paid separately, at the ticket office. The lengths shown range from 3 to 4 hours, up to a full day.
What is paid on site
All site fees are payable on site, on top of the guide’s price, and their rates vary with status: the ferry crossing to Gorée with the municipal tax, the entrance fees of the House of Slaves and the Historical Museum if you visit them, entry to the Bandia Reserve with the compulsory reserve guide and vehicle access, the optional pirogue ride at the Pink Lake, and entry to the African Renaissance Monument if you visit it. The Pink Lake itself has no entry fee.
Dakar, the starting point for every route
Dakar is discovered through its neighbourhoods, its ocean and its tempo rather than through a list of monuments, and that is precisely the role of a guide: to connect what you see. If you live in Dakar, it is a way to show the city to relatives without improvising; if you are visiting, a way to save time on site. The excursions leave the Dakar region for Gorée Island, the Bandia Reserve and the Pink Lake; the African Renaissance Monument can also be visited in town.
To extend your visit
Other options exist in the guided cultural visits category, with the island excursions for Gorée, the Madeleine Islands or the Saloum, and the reserves and wildlife parks for nature outings.
