The quad ride to the baobabs heads for the spider baobab and the sacred baobab, between Ngaparou and Somone. Three lengths to choose from, 1 h to 3 h, one quad for one or two people, departure from Saly and equipment provided.
Meeting the baobabs
The idea of the outing rests on its theme: seeing the country’s emblematic trees up close rather than glimpsing them from the road. The ride leads to the spider baobab and, on the longest package, to the sacred baobab. It is done by quad, along the tracks of the hinterland between Ngaparou and Somone, an area of villages, bush and lagoon.
The sacred baobab only features on the 3 h package, marked as such in the selector: if the baobabs are the reason for the outing, that is the one that completes the programme. Two people can share a quad, which suits a couple or a pair of friends who want to experience the ride together.
Six packages exist: 1 h, 2 h or 3 h, each for 1 or 2 people. The sacred baobab is included in the 3 h package. The price is calculated per quad, whether you ride alone or as two. The quad and the equipment are provided, and only drinks are not included. Departure is from Saly.
Between Ngaparou and Somone
South of Saly, Ngaparou and Somone form an area that is quieter than the resort: fishing villages, craft markets, baobabs and a lagoon that is a community nature reserve. If you live in Dakar, it is an easy outing for a weekend on the coast; if you are visiting, it is a way to see something other than the hotels.
Extending the day
In the same area, the Somone lagoon is best explored by pirogue (a traditional wooden boat), the Popenguine reserve offers its cliffs and birds, and the Bandia safari adds wildlife to the nature. Other quad and buggy outings let you compare routes.
