A camel ride in Saly is an hour at the animal’s slow pace, along the beach and through the bush of the Petite Côte. Instructor and equipment are included, with an adult price and a child price, and the activity is open from age 5.
One hour on the beach and in the bush
Two options are offered, both lasting an hour and priced per person: an adult ride and a child ride. The excursion starts from the shoreline or the edge of the village, then winds through the landscapes that border the Atlantic Ocean. The camel’s slow pace lets you take in the sea views, the filao trees, sometimes scenes of fishing or coastal birds.
No previous experience is required: the team on site helps you up and looks after safety throughout the route. Children are accepted from age 5, and can ride alone or with an adult. Departures are offered throughout the day, with special moments at sunrise and sunset, when the light illuminates the beach. Tailored routes are possible. Each option lasts an hour.
Bring comfortable clothes, a hat or cap, sun cream and a camera.
If you live in Dakar and are spending a weekend in Saly, it is a family activity that brings young and old together without booking lessons or equipment. If you are visiting, it is one of the simplest ways to see the coast other than from a sun lounger.
Saly, the coast’s first resort
Saly-Portudal is the country’s first seaside resort, 80 km south of Dakar, on the Petite Côte. Built around a sheltered coast, it stretches along the shoreline, and the rides take place beside the Atlantic, with the bush close by. The Saly page brings together all the resort’s offers, and the Thiès Region gives the administrative setting.
After the ride
To complete the day, a horse ride offers another pace, jet skiing is the fast option, and the Bandia Reserve is the region’s nature outing.
