The bush quad ride in Nianing and Popenguine is a 4-hour half-day through the hinterland of the Petite Côte, among baobabs, villages and wild landscapes. Two routes, one towards Nianing and the other towards Popenguine, with a price per quad for one or two people.
Two routes through the bush
This outing leaves the seafront behind and heads into the bush of the Petite Côte. Two versions of the same four-hour half-day exist: an excursion towards Nianing and an excursion towards Popenguine. Along the route, the landmarks are baobabs, villages and landscapes wilder than those of the beaches. The price is per quad, for up to two people, so two of you can share the vehicle. You choose between Nianing and Popenguine when you book: the first route stays among bush and coastal villages, while the second reaches a nature reserve known for its cliffs, which changes the programme of the morning as much as that of the afternoon.
Popenguine: an entrance fee payable on site
If you choose the Popenguine route, the nature reserve comes into play. Its entrance fee is payable on site, on top of the price, per person, with a rate that depends on the visitor’s status: Senegalese resident, resident tourist or non-resident. The amounts are shown in the dedicated section of the listing.
Nianing and Popenguine
Nianing is eight kilometres south of Mbour: the same sea and the same sand as Saly, but without the buzz of the resort. Popenguine, about 70 km south of Dakar, is known for its Marian shrine, its nature reserve and its cliffs above a beach that is still unspoilt. Between the two, the bush offers a counterpoint to the beaches. If you live in Dakar, it is a half-day that slips into a weekend on the coast; if you are visiting, it is an outing that shows the interior, far from the hotels. You will find details of the two villages on the Nianing and Popenguine pages, as well as on the page for the Popenguine reserve.
Rounding out the day
The Petite Côte offers enough to fill a whole stay: a pirogue ride to see the coast from the water, a horse or dromedary ride for a slower pace, or other quad and buggy outings to compare routes.
