Paddle hire in Dakar is by the hour, from the Almadies, Dakar or Gorée Island: the board (SUP) and paddle are provided, and stand-up paddling is easy to try for the first time. One hour to glide upright on the water and watch the coastline go by.
One board, one paddle, one hour
Stand-up paddling is a gentle, playful way to glide over the water, standing on a board and watching the shoreline. It suits a relaxed outing just as well as a bit of exercise. The option is an hourly hire, priced per unit: one board and one paddle for an hour, starting from Dakar, the Almadies or Gorée Island, as you prefer.
The board and paddle are provided. Bring clothes that can get wet and sunscreen. No experience is needed: paddleboarding is easy to try for the first time, and a relaxed outing suits it as well as a workout.
Three starting points
Dakar is a peninsula, and paddling gives you another way to read it, from the water: you see the coastline at waterline height, with the stroke of the paddle as your only speed. The Almadies, at the western tip, open onto the Atlantic; Dakar gives access from the city; Gorée lets you paddle off the island, a short way from Dakar. If you live in Dakar, this is an end-of-day or weekend activity that you hire by the hour, with no lesson to book; unlike a course of several days, it asks for no commitment. If you are visiting, it is an easy way to see the coast other than from the road.
After the session
After your paddle, you can visit Gorée Island if you have not seen it yet, have a drink by the sea, stroll around Ngor or have lunch on the Corniche. Other sea activities go well with gliding: diving and snorkelling, surfing or boat trips. The other paddle and kayak offers let you compare.
