Description of this activity

The safari at Fathala offers an immersion into the heart of West Africa, within a vast 6,000-hectare nature reserve populated by giraffes, rhinoceroses, zebras, antelopes, buffaloes, monkeys, Derby elands, and more than 300 species of birds. The standard safari is done in an open 4×4, accompanied by a wildlife guide. For 1.5 to 2 hours, you’ll traverse the bush and get close to the iconic animals of the Senegalese savanna in a preserved environment. Safaris start early in the morning or late in the afternoon to take advantage of the best light and the highest animal activity.
Beyond the animal safari, Fathala offers unique experiences such as the famous “lion walk” (a short, supervised activity for adults), birdwatching safaris, and walking tours in the bush to observe small mammals and local flora. You can also extend your adventure with a trip to Fathala Island (boat crossing, beach barbecue, swimming).
Access to the safari is exclusively through our website to guarantee your spot and secure a time slot that works for you. Tours are available to everyone, but some experiences (like the lion walk) are reserved for adults or older teenagers for safety reasons. Be sure to bring light clothing, closed shoes, water, a camera, and sunscreen. A safari usually lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours, while the “lion walk” lasts around 40 to 45 minutes. Other packages (full-day with a picnic, lodge stays) may be available depending on the season.
Nearby, make the most of your visit to Fathala to discover: traditional villages in the Saloum Delta, the Niumi Lagoon for birdwatching, or a boat ride to the tranquil beaches of the Petite Côte.
