The visit to the Palmarin Nature Reserve lasts 1 h 30 and starts in Palmarin itself. A guide takes you, in French, English or Portuguese, through a community reserve of more than 10,000 hectares where the ocean, the delta's waterways, mangroves and wooded savannah meet. All ages are welcome, children included.
The Palmarin Community Nature Reserve was created in 2001 on the initiative of the local residents, then recognised as a Ramsar site, an internationally important wetland, in 2017. Across more than 10,000 hectares it brings together the Atlantic Ocean, the Saloum estuary, bolongs (the delta's tidal channels), mudflats, salt flats, mangroves, islands and wooded savannah.
