A 4-day stay in the Sine-Saloum Delta means three nights between a traditional-style hotel and a bivouac, with outings by pirogue and horse-drawn cart, departing from Dakar. Return transport, guide and half board are included; the minimum age is 12.
Four days, three nights, one delta
The stay is in a shared room, in a hotel with traditional-style buildings, with one night in a bivouac. The programme includes a pirogue trip, a ride in a horse-drawn cart, and discovering the food and evenings of the Saloum. Return transport from Dakar, the guide, the three nights, half board, the pirogue and the horse-drawn cart are included.
Departures from Dakar are between 8am and 12 noon, from Liberte 6 Extension. The allocation of shared rooms is organised by the agency. The minimum age is 12. Bring mosquito repellent and a light jumper for the evenings and the bivouac. The village and protected-area tax of the Sine-Saloum is an official fee, payable on site, on top of the price.
The price is per person, in a shared room. Four days allow you to alternate time on the water, cart rides and evenings, without rushing from one visit to the next.
If you live in Dakar, it is a ready-made long weekend, with no driving. If you are visiting, it is a way to see the delta in four days without organising the transport or accommodation yourself.
The Sine-Saloum Delta
The Sine-Saloum is Senegal in slow motion, by pirogue, between salt water and mangrove: a labyrinth of waterways, the bolongs, where people come for the birds, the silence and the sunsets. About 150 km south of Dakar, this delta, a UNESCO biosphere reserve and Ramsar site, covers more than 180,000 hectares. The page on the Sine-Saloum Delta describes its landscapes.
Extending your time
After the stay, a pirogue trip, birdwatching and guided cultural visits extend the discovery. The Fathala reserve and island excursions are other outings in the region.
