The Gorée and Dakar city tour fits into a single guided day: the island in the morning, the capital in the afternoon. Leaving from the Dakar landing stage, a guide links Gorée, its lanes and its House of Slaves, then the main sights of the Plateau and the Corniche, priced per person.
Gorée in the morning, Dakar in the afternoon
The day begins with the crossing to Gorée, an island on the UNESCO World Heritage list: the House of Slaves, coloured lanes and a history that leaves no one unmoved. After the break, the guide takes you back to the mainland for a city tour: Independence Square, the Plateau, the Grand Mosque, Kermel Market and the viewpoints along the Corniche. The contrast is deliberate, and it is what makes this option interesting: the island of memory, then the city in full swing.
The guide is included. The price is per person; give the number of participants when you book. Lunch is not included.
What is paid on site
The Dakar-Gorée ferry ticket (return) and the island’s municipal tax are official fees: they are payable on site, on top of the price, at the official rate depending on your status (Senegalese, African resident, non-resident). The tax is paid at the ticket office at the Dakar landing stage. If you visit the House of Slaves or the Historical Museum, their entrance fees are also payable on site. Drinks and personal spending are at your own expense.
Dakar in a single pass
Gorée can be visited from Dakar in a few hours, and this option adds the city itself, in one go: if you live in Dakar, it is a tourist day in your own city, ideal when relatives are passing through; if you are visiting for a few days, it is the outing that gives you the essentials. On the city tour, the Plateau holds the historic centre, the Grand Mosque of Dakar is one of the city’s religious landmarks, and the House of Slaves page prepares you for the island visit.
To extend the day
To go further, the Museum of Black Civilisations completes the discovery, and the island excursions offer other crossings off the city. In the same category, other guided cultural visits are available.
