The Djoudj village experiences offer, next to the national bird park, a pirogue to the pelican breeding site, a village visit by horse cart, a cultural ceremony and guided visits of the park. A guide is included, as a half day or a full day, priced per person.
Six options around the park
Six options exist. The pirogue ride goes to the pelican breeding site. The village visit by horse cart shows you the life of the place. The cultural ceremony exists in a version for 1 to 2 people or for a group. Finally, the guided visit of Djoudj park is a half day, or a full day with the surrounding area. The half days last 4 hours, the full day 8.
The guide is included; drinks are at your own expense. Cancellation is free up to 48 hours before.
What is paid on site
For the pirogue ride, park entry and the compulsory guide are official fees: they are payable on site, on top of the price, directly at the ticket office. Entry is free for children under 10.
Why sleep near the park
Every winter, Djoudj is the first big stopover for migrants from Europe: storks, ducks, teal, stilts, after crossing the Sahara. A village camp about 500 metres from the park lets you stay on site rather than set out from Saint-Louis, which leaves time for the morning pirogue and the afternoon horse cart.
The Djoudj page gathers the offers for the place and the Djoudj National Park page presents the site. The park is in the Saint-Louis region, and Saint-Louis remains the main reference town. If you live in Senegal, the village option is an out-of-the-ordinary weekend; if you are visiting, a contact with local life that a park visit alone does not give.
To extend your trip
The Langue de Barbarie park and the Guembeul Reserve are the area’s two other nature stops. Birdwatching and guided cultural visits group other outings.
