Fishing on the bolongs from Ndangane is done with a line, by pirogue, with a village guide who knows the spots for jacks and barracudas. A half day or a full day, at a flat rate per group, with pirogue, guide, bait and rods provided, from Ndangane or from your hotel.
Line fishing in the Saloum
The outing is line fishing, by pirogue, on the bolongs of the Saloum, those tidal creeks that wind through the mangrove. The guide is from Ndangane, and knows where the jacks and barracudas are. The pirogue, the guide, the bait and the fishing rods are included; only drinks are at your own expense.
Two options exist, both at a flat rate per group: the half day and the full day. For children, the outing is free under 8 and half price from 8 to 15, which makes it workable for a family.
You set off from Ndangane, or are picked up at your hotel. Bring a hat, sunscreen and water, as you spend several hours on the water, in the sun.
If you live in Dakar, this is a weekend in the delta with an activity that fills a morning or a day. If you are visiting, it is a way to share village daily life, with someone from the area rather than a passing guide.
Ndangane, gateway to the delta
Ndangane lies in the Sine-Saloum, a territory you travel by pirogue, between salt water and mangrove. People come for the birds, the silence and the sunsets, not to tick boxes. The Fatick region gives its administrative setting, and the Sine-Saloum Delta page tells of its islands, its mangroves and its Serer traditions.
Around Ndangane
To complete the outing, a pirogue trip offers the same scenery without a fishing rod, birdwatching makes the most of the evening calm, and an island excursion leads to the villages of the delta. Other sport and sea fishing outings are available elsewhere in the country.
