The 4-day tour of Kédougou takes you from Dakar to the south-east of the country, the greenest region of Senegal: waterfalls, hills, Bassari and Bedik villages. Return transport, a guide, 3 nights and meals are included, with a 6 a.m. departure.
Four days, three nights, one journey
The tour leaves Dakar at 6 in the morning and reaches the south-east by road, a long road: the organisers advise bringing something to keep you busy, and water. On site, the programme combines nature and encounters: waterfalls, hills, viewpoints over the Guinean border and visits to Bassari and Bedik villages.
Included are: return transport from Dakar, a guide, 3 nights and meals. Drinks are not included. Site entrance fees, such as the one for the Dindéfelo Community Reserve, are payable on site, on top of the price: the fees vary according to profile (non-resident, resident, student) and other community sites ask for a local contribution. The price is per person.
Bring walking shoes, as the programme takes place outdoors and on varied terrain.
If you live in Senegal, it is a rare trip: the south-east is far from the usual routes, and this format spares you from organising four days of road and accommodation on your own. If you are visiting, it is a way to see the other Senegal, the one of relief, far from the beaches, with a guide who knows the terrain.
Kédougou, at the end of the N7
Kédougou sits in the bottom right-hand corner of the map, where the country runs up against Guinea and Mali, nearly 700 km from Dakar, at the end of the N7 highway. People come for what surrounds it: hills of red laterite, sandstone plateaus, waterfalls. The Kédougou Region contradicts the image of a flat, sandy Senegal.
The village of Dindéfelo and its waterfall are one of the region’s sites; the Bassari Country brings together the villages that carry Bassari culture.
Take it further around Kédougou
To stay in the region, Niokolo-Koba National Park is another nature destination, and the guided hikes let you walk more, with a local guide.
