Art lessons at home in Dakar: an instructor comes to you for a one-hour one-to-one lesson, or for a group of five or ten people over two hours. Materials and travel are at the customer’s expense.
Three formats, at home
Three options exist: a one-hour one-to-one lesson, a two-hour lesson for a group of five, and a two-hour lesson for a group of ten. It is a home format: the instructor travels, so you can hold the lesson at home, alone or with others. The one-hour one-to-one lesson lets you work at your own pace with the instructor’s full attention; with a group of five the atmosphere stays intimate; with ten, the workshop becomes a collective activity that suits a group of friends or a class. Both group lessons last two hours, enough time to make progress on a piece.
Two items are at the customer’s expense: the materials (brushes, scissors, cardboard), bought at the start of the course and reusable afterwards, and a travel supplement. Art lessons cover several hands-on practices, and the materials list (brushes, scissors, cardboard) gives an idea.
If you live in Dakar, it is a way to bring a creative workshop home, for yourself, for a child or for a group of neighbours. If you are visiting and staying in a rental or villa, it is a workshop with no need to travel.
Dakar, a workshop at home
Dakar spreads across the Cap-Vert peninsula, from the colonial Plateau to the lively Médina, from the skyscrapers of the Corniche to the pirogues of Soumbedioune. The instructor comes to your home: a lesson at home saves crossing the city to reach a workshop, and a group of five or ten people can gather in the same place. The Dakar region gives the wider setting.
Extending your time
To keep going on the creative side, painting and art lessons are also offered in a studio, and craft and skills workshops offer other skills to learn. For outings, the Museum of Black Civilisations gives a grounding in the art of the continent.
