Jet skiing in Mbour starts from the town’s main beach, in front of the artisanal fishing port: a 45-minute ride towards the port, one or two to a jet ski, with a qualified instructor and equipment provided. From age 16, no licence.
A ride to the fishing port
The package is a 45-minute jet ski ride to the fishing port of Mbour, at a flat rate, with up to two people per jet ski. A qualified instructor supervises the session. The equipment is provided, no licence is required, and the activity is accessible from age 16. Bring sun cream, sunglasses and a towel.
The session leaves from the main beach, in an area set aside for water sports, among multicoloured pirogues: a lively, picturesque setting, far from the beaches reserved for hotels. Thrill-seekers can push the machine in the permitted areas, while beginners enjoy reassuring guidance. Following the coast, you glimpse the seaside districts, the fishermen at work and, in the distance, the beaches of Warang and Saly. The sea is calmer in the morning, with a gentle sun, and that is the recommended time to set off.
Mbour, a fishing town
Mbour is 80 km south of Dakar and 5 km from Saly: the second fishing port in Senegal after Dakar, with its pirogues, its colourful markets, its horse-drawn carts and its old cars. Jet skiing here makes a change from the neighbouring resort: the setting is not that of the hotels, but that of a town that lives off the sea. If you live in Dakar, it is a weekend activity to slip in before a fish lunch; if you are visiting, a way to see the port from offshore before visiting it on land. The Mbour page presents the town, and the Petite Côte page the coastline.
After the session
The fishing port, close by, lets you watch the pirogues land their catch; the craft market and the seafront restaurants extend the day. Nearby, Bandia Reserve and Saly are worth a visit. Other water activities round off the coast: jet skiing, towed sports and boat excursions.
