A swimming lesson in Ngor means learning or improving with a qualified instructor, in the village bay or in a pool, in a 10-lesson pack or by the session. You meet at Ngor Bay, and the lesson lasts one hour.
From the bay to the pool, five options
Five options exist, all lasting one hour and priced per person:
- 10-lesson pack at Ngor Bay: you meet at the bay, in open water.
- 10-lesson pack at home or in a pool, with a variation at the adult rate.
- Single lesson in the pool of a Dakar club.
- 10-session pack in the same pool.
The instructor and supervision are included, and the instructor is qualified. Drinks are not included. The ten-lesson pack is good for learning the basics or improving over time, the single session for trying out or brushing up. The lessons cover both learning and improving.
As for conditions, cancellation is free up to 24 hours before the lesson; after that, the amount paid for the booking is not refunded.
If you live in Dakar, the ten-lesson pack sets up real progress, at the bay or at home. If you are visiting, the single pool session is enough to pick a stroke back up or to try it out.
Ngor, a lébou village on the bay
Ngor, at the northern tip of the Cap-Vert peninsula, combines lébou traditions (the lébou are the coastal fishing people of the Dakar region), maritime culture and seaside modernity. This village district appeals with its lively beach, its well-preserved village heart and its island reached by pirogue, amid small-scale fishing, surfing and a bohemian atmosphere. It is one of the three “tank” villages founded by the lébou, along with Yoff and Ouakam. Ngor Bay is the meeting point for the open-water lessons. The city of Dakar and the Dakar region give the wider setting.
Things to do around Ngor
Once the lesson is over, Ngor beach and Ngor Island are close by, the island being reached by pirogue. To stay in the water, paddle and kayak, snorkelling and surf lessons are offered nearby, and other swimming and aquatic activities are available in the region.
