A stay in Simal and Palmarin takes two days and one night in the Sine-Saloum, on full board: an excursion, a horse-cart ride, a town tour and a guide are all included. Pick-up from your home is offered from the Petite Côte, and you spend the stay in Simal or in Palmarin depending on the option.
Two days in the Serer Saloum
The stay combines a look at the Sine-Saloum, a horse-cart ride and visits to villages. Full board is included, accommodation too, along with a guide. Drinks are not included. The stay lasts 2 days and 1 night on site, which leaves time to take in the calm of the delta rather than simply drive through it.
Palmarin is a Serer land’s end set on a tongue of sand between Joal and Djifere: from the same spot you see the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the channels of the Saloum Delta on the other, and at sunrise you may spot flamingos and pelicans. Simal is a village in the delta, with its own page.
Departures and conditions
Pick-up from your home is included from the Petite Côte (Saly, Somone, Ngaparou), and is possible from Dakar with a transport supplement. Cancellation is free up to 72 hours before departure; after that, the amount paid is not refunded.
Simal, Palmarin and the delta
Palmarin lies in the Fatick region, at the gateway to the Sine-Saloum, a slow-paced Senegal where people come for the birds, the silence and the sunsets rather than to tick off stops. The Simal page introduces the village, and the page on the Sine-Saloum Delta covers the whole area. If you live on the Petite Côte, it is a short weekend away without a car, in a setting that is a world apart from the beach; if you are visiting, it is a way to spend a night in the delta without arranging your own accommodation.
Take it further
Depending on your mood, you can continue with the Fathala reserve for a safari, or the island of Mar Lodj. Pirogue rides let you explore the delta from the water, and the island excursions widen the choice.
