The mountain bike and pirogue in Casamance combo brings together two ways of discovering Lower Casamance in a single 6-hour outing: by bike through Diola villages, protected forests and rice paddies, and on to Pointe Saint-Georges. The bike is provided, and the price is a flat rate for the group.
Six hours between land and water
There is a single package, priced as a flat rate for the group: six hours that combine the mountain bike with the pirogue (a traditional wooden boat). The bike route crosses Lower Casamance: Diola villages, protected forests, rice paddies, and runs as far as Pointe Saint-Georges. The bike is provided. The pirogue answers to what makes Casamance what it is: a land woven from bolongs, the waterways that wind between the mangroves.
Six hours makes a real day rather than a simple stroll: you ride, you board, you stop, at the pace of the group. The price is the group’s price: one outing, however you split your time between the bike and the pirogue. For a group, it is a simple format: a single flat rate covers the outing, which makes organisation easier for a family or friends travelling together.
Lower Casamance by bike and on the water
Cut off from the rest of the country by the Gambia to the north and bordered by Guinea-Bissau to the south, Casamance is another Senegal: green, humid, slow, made of rice paddies, gallery forests and villages. The bike lets you ride from village to village without shutting yourself in a vehicle; the pirogue gives the other half of the scenery. If you live in Dakar or on the Petite Côte, it is a stay outing to change air and pace, far from the main roads; if you are visiting, it is a slow way to understand the region, at the speed of a bike and a paddle. Pointe Saint-Georges, named in the route, has its own page.
Going further
Another way to stay in the same spirit: a guided hike on foot between the villages, a longer pirogue ride, or a stop at Cap Skirring for the beach. The traditional sites and villages round out the discovery.
