Boat trips in Saly come in three packages from the Petite Côte: a half-day ride to see the fishermen come in at Mbour, a half-day ride with a packed snack and a full-day ride with a packed snack. Safety equipment is provided.
Three ways to take to the sea
Three packages stand out. The first, a half-day, aims at one precise moment: the fishermen coming in at Mbour, when the pirogues return and the beach comes alive. The second, also a half-day, adds a packed snack and is priced as a flat rate per boat. The third lasts a full day, with a packed snack, also at a flat rate per boat.
Pick-up is from a beach in Saly. Safety equipment is provided: life jackets and a non-capsizing pirogue.
Saly, Mbour, the Petite Côte
Saly is the first seaside resort of the Petite Côte, about 80 km from Dakar. Mbour, its neighbour, is a fishing port: watching the fishermen come in by pirogue is a highlight of local life. If you live in Dakar, the trip is a way to discover the coast other than by car; if you are staying in the resort, it is contact with artisanal fishing that makes a change from beaches and hotels. The Petite Côte is about a hundred kilometres of golden shoreline, beaches, fishing villages and lagoons: the sea is the best viewpoint from which to take it all in, and Saly, built in the 1980s around a sheltered coast, is its natural gateway.
The three packages are not for the same audience. The first half-day is centred on the fishermen coming in at Mbour. The half-day with a packed snack gives a more relaxed format, with a break on board. The full day is for those who want to spend the whole day on the water, with no tight programme, following the wishes of the group.
Going further
Other outings on the water let you vary the experience: the boat excursions, sport fishing at sea, or the cruises and boat hire.
