The bivouac in the Sine-Saloum Delta runs over three days and two nights: bolongs (tidal creeks), Bird Island, Devils’ Island, Toubacouta, Mar Lothie, then a day in Fathala Reserve for the walk with the lions. The pirogue, guide, accommodation and meals are included.
Three days in the delta
Departure is from Ndangane. The package follows the thread of the water: the bolongs, Bird Island, Devils’ Island, Toubacouta, Mar Lothie, then a day in Fathala Reserve to walk with the lions. The pirogue (a traditional wooden boat), guide, accommodation for two nights and meals are included; drinks are at your own expense. The price is a flat rate for the group.
The reserve requires a minimum height of 1.50 m for the walk with the lions. For children, entry is free under age 8, with a half rate from 8 to 15. Bring mosquito repellent, a torch and a light jumper for the nights.
What you pay on site
The entrances and activities of Fathala Reserve are payable on site, on top of the price: the walk with the lions (from 1.50 m), the safari (per person) and the vehicle entrance. The amounts are shown in the dedicated section of the listing.
The delta by pirogue
The Sine-Saloum is Senegal at a slower pace, between salt water and mangrove: a maze of waterways where people come for the birds, the silence and the sunsets. If you live here, three days give a real break from the city, longer than a weekend; if you are visiting, it is a way to see the delta over time, with the night spent on site. Ndangane, the departure point, and Toubacouta serve as landmarks in the delta, and the reserve is presented on the Fathala page, as well as on our Fathala Reserve page.
Going further
The Sine-Saloum Delta has enough to fill a longer stay, with Mar Lodj and other islands. The pirogue ride and bird watching are natural complements, and other adventure and outdoor outings exist across the country.
