Skimboarding in Somone means gliding on the thin film of water covering the sand at the water’s edge, on a short board. The option is a half day, priced per person, with the board and safety equipment provided, and open to all levels.
Gliding right at the shoreline
Skimboarding is a beach sport: you glide on the thin film of water near the shore, on a board with no foot straps. You run, throw the board, jump on it, and let yourself be carried on the film of water the wave has left on the sand. It is a dynamic sport, ideal for having fun on the beach, whether you are a novice or experienced, and perfect for families, groups of friends or gliding fans who want to combine fun, balance and thrills.
There is a single option: the half day, priced per person. The skimboard and the safety equipment are provided.
If you live in Dakar, this is a half day on the beach at Somone, more active than a simple swim. If you are visiting, it is an activity that is quick to learn, with nothing to buy or carry, and that you do with others.
Somone, beach and lagoon
Somone lies about ten kilometres south of Saly, on the Petite Côte. The village is built on the edge of an estuary, where the sea and the Somone river meet, and the lagoon is classed as a community nature reserve. The atmosphere is calmer and more intimate than in the neighbouring resort, inviting contemplation: family guesthouses, stilt-house guesthouses and restaurants set right at the water’s edge give the morning an unhurried rhythm. The page on the Somone lagoon describes its mangrove and birds.
Around the beach
After gliding, you can carry on on the water: paddle and kayak let you follow the lagoon, and surf lessons and courses offer another gliding sport, more demanding. A pirogue trip or birdwatching round out the morning.
