The motorboat trip in Ndayane follows, for about two hours, a coastline that has stayed wild: red cliffs, rocky coves, areas where fishermen cast their nets. The boat, snack and guide are included, and the trip is open to all.
A coastline of cliffs and coves
Departure is from Ndayane beach, after a brief presentation of the route. The boat leaves the shore and follows the coast for about two hours, past a succession of rocky outcrops, small inlets and areas where fishermen cast their nets. The guide comments on the notable points of the coastline. Stops are planned for swimming or photos, in a safe area, often near the cliffs or an isolated beach, and a small snack is served on board.
As you go, you see the red cliffs of Popenguine, the dunes towards Toubab Dialaw and, sometimes, the seabirds that nest on the heights. The area is busy in the morning: the pirogues come back from the open sea with their nets. Morning is recommended, with a steadier sea and pleasant light. Bring a hat, swimsuit, towel and sun cream. A private outing is possible on request.
Ndayane, a Lébou village between beaches and port
Ndayane is about 50 km south of Dakar, near Cape Naze, past Toubab Dialaw: a Lébou village on the Petite Côte that has shifted from farming to fishing, and that mixes unspoilt beaches with a modern port project. If you live in Dakar, the trip is an easy morning outing, at a reasonable distance from the capital; if you are visiting, it is contact with a coast that is still little visited by tourists, far from the resorts. The Ndayane page presents the village, and the Popenguine page the neighbouring town.
Things to do around Ndayane
After the trip, the Popenguine reserve lets you walk on the cliffs you saw from the sea, Toubab Dialaw lends itself to a stroll, and Joal-Fadiouth adds a more cultural day. To stay on the water, the other boat excursions and the pirogue rides offer other routes.
