The towed tube ride in Somone takes place on the Petite Côte, about ten kilometres south of Saly, near the estuary and the lagoon. A 30-minute session behind a boat, with instructor and vest provided, from age 8, in the morning or late afternoon.
Laughs, turns and splashes
The inflatable tube is pulled by a boat driven by an instructor. The instructor adapts the pace to everyone’s wishes: gentle speed for a quiet ride, a livelier pace for thrill-seekers. It is an activity to share with friends, as a couple or as a family, and it needs neither level nor technique: you settle in, you hold on, and the instructor does the rest. The speed runs from the gentlest to the liveliest, as the group wishes.
The equipment, the instructor and the safety vest are included. The activity is accessible from age 8. The best slots are the morning or late afternoon, when the sea is calmer. Bring a swimsuit, towel, sunglasses with a strap and sun cream. If you fall, the boat stops immediately.
Somone, the calmer coast
Somone is a village on an estuary where the sea and the river meet, about ten kilometres south of Saly. Overlooked by mass tourism, it contrasts with the neighbouring resort: the atmosphere is more serene, with modest places to stay and restaurants right at the water’s edge, around a lagoon that is a community nature reserve. If you live in Dakar, the tube is a weekend activity without the crowds; if you are visiting, a moment of play between two more contemplative days. The Somone page presents the village, and the Somone lagoon page the mangrove and the birds.
Extending the outing
Between two sessions, you can relax on the sand or combine with other water sports: jet skiing, paddle or towed sports. For a calmer outing, the pirogue ride takes place on the lagoon, and the boat excursions widen the setting.
